The colour wheel evolution

Colour wheels have been a useful tool for creatives for decades, but there was scope to allow for easier visualisation of colour schemes and harmonies.

Designer Colour Wheel represents a unique evolution of the tools used to understand the colour spectrum. It delivers the ability to see colour harmonies and colour schemes in isolation.

This is achieved through two discs that allow the user to shuffle quickly to colour schemes. The discs slide through:

  • Complementary, Monochromatic, Analogous, Triadic and Split Complementary.

For example, if you need a triadic colour scheme which are three colours equidistance apart on the colour wheel, you simply spin the unique discs, line up the T icons (T for Triadic), and there they are.

Complimentary colours work in the same way, by lining up the C icons. The same goes for Split Complimentary, Analogous and Monochromatic.

The Designer Colour Wheel shows tint, tone, shade, pure colour, colour temperature, primary, secondary, tertiary colours, colour dimension and systems.

The base card under the wheel shows the whole colour spectrum with simple guides, and the back of the card shares further colour theory.

It's time to add this tool to your creative repertoir.

Meet the designer

Colour is a science and the Designer Colour Wheel is easier for professionals to use. By isolating colour combinations, users can immediately see harmonious colour combinations.

Kim Chadwick is the Director of Australian Trend Forecast and the designer of the Designer Colour Wheel.

She has been working with colour for over 25 years and found previous colour wheel iterations frustrating and wanted to simplify people's ability to understand the principles of colour theory and the language of colour.

Kim created the Designer Colour Wheel and views it as an essential tool for creatives across the board, whether they’re designers, creatives, artists, work in film or TV, lighting, photography, advertising and more.
